My biggest concern wasn\u2019t even hitting the target \u2014 it was doing something wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before stepping foot in the range, I spent a lot of time learning the rules, safety practices, and proper handling. I wanted to make sure I respected the environment and did things the right way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Started<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I got checked in, I bought 200 rounds of range ammo. I went with&nbsp;<strong>Magtech 115 grain<\/strong>, based on the recommendation from the guy working there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Truthfully, I don\u2019t fully understand what \u201c115 grain\u201d means yet \u2014 but that\u2019s part of the journey. I\u2019ll learn that over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With ammo in hand, I stepped into my lane and got set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Impressions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing that hit me was the noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with ear protection, it was louder than I expected. But after about 5 minutes, I stopped noticing it completely and was able to focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next was loading the magazines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had 3 mags that came with my Glock 45. Loading them wasn\u2019t hard, but it also wasn\u2019t exactly easy either. Pushing each round in by hand took a bit of time and effort \u2014 definitely something that will get easier with practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Shots<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When I finally started shooting, a few things stood out right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Iron sights take getting used to<\/strong><br>It took a few shots to understand how to properly line them up. I noticed I was slightly tipping the gun up or down without realizing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Trigger control matters more than I expected<\/strong><br>I had to really focus on not pulling left or right when squeezing the trigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. The Glock trigger feel<\/strong><br>Since there\u2019s no traditional safety, the Glock has that \u201cwall\u201d in the trigger. I noticed that when I anticipated the shot too much after hitting that wall, my accuracy dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What helped me most was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pull to the wall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take a breath<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then finish the trigger pull smoothly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That made a big difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I Learned<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This first session taught me a lot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shooting is harder than it looks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small mistakes (like anticipation or grip) make a big difference<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slowing down helps more than rushing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can improve quickly if you pay attention and adjust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I shot about 100 rounds during that hour and saved the rest for next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the session, I could already feel improvement. My shots were more consistent, and I had a better understanding of what I was doing right \u2014 and what I needed to fix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Thoughts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, I really enjoyed the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nerves I had going in disappeared pretty quickly, and I left the range feeling more confident than when I walked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than anything, I think I did a good job of staying aware, learning in real time, and making adjustments as I went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And honestly\u2026 I can\u2019t wait to go back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is just the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s Next<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Next time, I want to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improve my consistency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get more comfortable with the trigger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue working on accuracy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll keep documenting everything as I go \u2014 the good, the bad, and everything in between.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After finally choosing my first firearm, it was time to take the next step \u2014 actually getting to the range.
